Woven Basket Holiday Star with Jennifer Johnson (Friday morning)

Get a jump on your holiday preparations by weaving a basket star ornament to give or keep. Finished stars will be between 6” and 8” and personalizing your star is the name of this game! Choose colors, number of weavers, overall size and more in this class focused on creating beauty.

Beginner friendly class with all materials and instructions provided. Be prepared to get glue on your fingers as we manipulate the basket reed. This is a good introduction to basketry for those new to the concept. Additional embellishment ideas will be presented.

Materials kit includes 1/4” basket reed in a variety of colors, instructional handout, glue and paper plate to transport your completed piece upon.

Students should provide 24 spring-type clothespins, a pencil, wooden ruler, beach towel and a gallon size plastic bag to bring their project home in. (It will still be damp and may be somewhat sticky).

Friday morning, 9 AM to 12 noon

Jennifer Johnson
Weaver, Textile Artist, Teacher

Jennifer’s creative desire is to take an idea or concept and bring that idea into physical reality.
Weaving is her passion, teaching is her gifting. Her adoration and appreciation of all things textiles is reflected in her broad experience of working threads – Hardanger embroidery, tatting, crewel, cross stitch, sewing, crochet, weaving, band weaving, button making.

A teacher at heart, Jennifer teaches new fiber artists of all ages. She thoroughly enjoys the creativity embodied in new artistans. There are few preconceived notions of what’s ‘right’ and thus, anything is possible!

Jennifer teaches at her studio, Fiber Maker Studio, in Greencastle. Additionally, she is found teaching at venues large and small (weaving guilds and fiber fairs to women’s church groups). Recently, she was invited to be the judge for the Gaslight Art Colony (Marshall, IL) “Fiber Art” juried show. As study group leader and past Board member for two weaving guilds, she stays connected to her colleagues. She is a workshop speaker on a wide range of weaving topics and thoroughly enjoys that ‘ah-ha!’ moment of learning something new.
