Botanical Alchemy: Botanical Printing on Silk

Discover the colors and intricate patterns hidden inside ordinary leaves. In this hands-on workshop, you will arrange botanical materials on silk, then roll and steam the fabric to release their natural pigments. When the bundle is opened, delicate leaf silhouettes, veins, layered colors, and unexpected marks are revealed.

You will leave with a one-of-a-kind silk scarf and the inspiration to continue to explore botanical printing at home. All materials are provided.

Artist Bio: Kate Dolk-Ellis is a fiber artist best known for her work with natural dyes, creating elegant art quilts and silk scarves. She specializes in eco-printing (also known as eco-printing, a process that involves contact-printing with dye plants and tree leaves to reveal unique patterns and colors on fabric. She has taught a variation of this workshop since 2017, including at last year’s Wool & Fiber Festival.
