In this hands-on workshop, you’ll investigate fiber and fleeces from sheep, goats, alpacas and rabbits, while learning what makes each fiber unique.
Explore a variety of breeds and compare the characteristics that make them best suited for our region. Learn to identify key clues such as fiber terminology, grades, and end uses. You will also discover fleece evaluation and preparation that affects the quality of the finished product.
Whether you are a fiber enthusiast, shepherd or curious beginner, this workshop will give you the skills to confidentially assess and choose the right fiber for your projects.
Participants should feel free to bring any fleeces to the class to discuss and evaluate.
All materials are supplied.

Artist’s Bio: Cheryl (Sheri) Creech Kersey grew up on a dairy farm in North Central Kentucky, where a lifelong appreciation for agriculture took root. Concurrent with a career as an Architect, Cheryl has developed a passion for fiber arts and shepherding. She is a certified Fiber Grader, Sorter and Classer. She enjoys sharing her knowledge about fiber animals, fleece evaluation and sustainable fiber production. Cheryl maintains a flock of Shetland Sheep on her farm in Commiskey Indiana.
