Natural Dyes, Colorful Skeins with Peggy Taylor (Friday morning)

Students will learn to do hands-on dyeing of wool mini-skeins using a variety of plant dyes; become familiar with dyeing in this sustainable and eco-friendly method, while adding skills to your fiber artist repertoire. Dyes include walnut hulls, Hopi black sunflower seeds, dyers’ chamomile/marigold blossoms, Osage orange, and onion skins; all of these thrive in our growing zone.

Included in the class: Pre-mordanted mini-skeins of natural wool yarn, plant materials/dyestuffs, print resources, and instruction. Wear old clothes or a cover-up, and feel free to take notes on plants and procedures. Starting a dye garden will be discussed during the class as well as recommended dye plants for our growing area.

Friday, 9 AM to 12 Noon
