Nuno Felted Lightweight Scarf

Discover the beauty of nuno felting in this hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own one-of-a-kind scarf using the wet felting technique. Perfect for beginners and fiber art enthusiasts alike, this class introduces the basics of nuno felting, the process of creating stunning textures and designs. Nuno felting is the process of bonds loose fiber (usually sheep’s wool) into a sheer fabric, such as silk gauze, creating a lightweight felt. “Nuno” is a Japanese word for cloth or fabric. You’ll learn how to:
– use the wet felting technique to make a lightweight, wearable scarf
– experiment with materials like wool, silk fabric, and other natural fibers
– create texture, combine different fibers and fabrics, and pattern effects unique to nuno felting
– understand the materials and tools needed for future felting projects

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished scarf and the skills to continue felting on your own.
No experience necessary, perfect for anyone excited to explore creative fiber arts!
Students need to being-old towel, scissors, plastic bag to take wet towel and scarf home.

Artist’s Bio: My name is Mariya Gerhardt. I am a fiber artist – felt maker and knitter.
When I discovered wet felting I was hooked by its magic when a fabric, a living image, is born from a bunch of scattered fibers of wool, silk and other fibers. For over seven years, I’ve been immersed in this art form, continuously experimenting, learning, and discovering new possibilities. I have a particular affinity for working with natural fibers and raw fleeces, often incorporating recycled materials such as silk, cotton, and viscose fabric, as well as various types of fiber. My creative journey has led me to explore the endless potential of both wet felting and nuno felting, and it has truly become a passion. Now, I share that passion by teaching wet felting and nuno felting classes at various fiber shows. There’s nothing more rewarding than inspiring others and spreading the joy of this beautiful, tactile craft.
