Wet Felting on a Form to Make a Vase

This immersive workshop introduces participants to the art of wet felting over a 3D container to create a sculptural felted vase. Using high-quality wool—including Gotland fleece from Sparrow Lark Farm—attendees will learn how to layer fiber, apply resist techniques, and shape their wool around a container form. The process uses warm water, soap, and friction to transform loose fiber into a strong, seamless vessel.

Participants will leave with a fully finished felted vase, a basic felting tool kit, and the skills to recreate the technique at home. This workshop is ideal for beginners or anyone looking to explore more creative and functional forms of fiber art.

Artist’s Bio: Bethany Mattingly is a Kentucky-based farmer, educator, and fiber artist behind Sparrow Lark Farm, a Gotland sheep farm focused on producing high-quality, locally sourced fleece. She brings a hands-on, approachable teaching style rooted in real farm experience, guiding students through the full journey from animal to finished fiber. Bethany is passionate about connecting people to agriculture and has taught this workshop at fiber festivals across Indiana and in private instruction in Kentucky. With more than 10 years experience as an ag teacher, she meets students of all ages where they are and works with them to build skills to where they want to go.
